John Henry Clippinger is a Senior Fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at The Harvard Law School and a Fellow at the Aspen Institute. He is the author of several books, most recently, A Crowd of One: The Future of Individual Identity, that explores how science and technology are creating a new narrative about human nature and identity. At the Berkman Center for Internet & Society, John directs the multi-disciplinary project, called Social Physics, to develop open source software for virtual identity and examine issues of identity, reputation, reciprocity, and social signaling on the formation of trusted social networks and institutions.

He has consulted to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Networks, Information and Integration) on the role of trust and distributed control for networked organizations, and has worked with numerous government agencies including the National Science Foundation, Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration, Federal Communications Commission, and National Telecommunications and Information Administration. He also been the founder of several artificial intelligence and natural language software companies, and most recently, Parity Communications, where he is chairman.

He is a frequent speaker at conferences, and has appeared on CNN, CBS evening news, business news radio and talk shows, and in the print media (New York Times, Computer World, Network, Release 1.0, Wall Street Journal) as a commentator on the impact of new technologies on business. He has been a regular participant in the Aspen Institute Forum on Communications and Society, Fortune/Aspen Brainstorm Conferences, World Economic Forum, PC Forum, Supernova, Santa Fe Institute Business Network, Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange, Microsoft Senior Information Technology Officer conference, Arab Thought Leadership Conference, Fortune CIO conference, the Global Creative Leadership Summit, Pentagon sponsored Highlands Forum, and the Yale CEO Leadership Summits.

John is a graduate of Yale University, holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and is a resident of Jefferson, New Hampshire. Back To Top
